First 1000 days

The first 1,000 days (between conception and a child’s 2nd birthday) offer a unique window of opportunity to build healthier, happier children and to improve their life chances. There have been a number of high profile campaigns promoting the importance of good nutrition during this time, however the benefits of being active post-pregnancy and during the early years have not received the same degree of attention. The human brain develops and changes throughout life, but the most rapid period of brain growth is in the last trimester of pregnancy and the first two years of life. Positive early experiences therefore have a huge effect on children’s chances for achievement, success and happiness and will affect their health outcomes for the rest of their lives.

Getting active outdoors, both while you’re pregnant and with your new baby, is a great way to spend quality time together; is good for your physical and mental wellbeing and will help you ensure you’ve done all you can to give your baby the early experiences they need for physical and emotional health
throughout their lives.

Alongside the various courses, sessions and tasters on offer, Babi Actif has produced an activity pack of “Things to do Before You’re Two” – a selection of free, fun and accessible things you and your baby can enjoy together.  A pack is available to everybody attending a session and we hope that the sessions and the pack will spark your imagination to give you years of active, healthy fun with your family.
